This is a writing prompt for at least two writers.

First, individually, jot down some notes:

• With a few sentences, describe your most comfortable poetic voice or voices.
• What kind of topics, themes or moods do you feel your poetic voice is most well suited to? Why?
• Do you think those who read your poems are surprised by your poetic voice? Why or why not?
• When you read your own poems, who else’s voice do you hear besides your own, if any?
• What are the biggest challenges with your poetic voice?

Then, share your notes with your writing partner. Discuss surprises, resonances, pleasures.

Now, given your intimate knowledge of your partner's poetic voice, write a poem using their voice. Swap and discuss.
