Please try to show some restraint by NOT peeking beyond the line below until you've completed
these four steps:

Step 1: Begin by Google Image-searching a word or object or abstraction of interest to you. (i.e “Venus” or "locusts" or “envy” or "trinket" or "*wink, wink*")

Step 2: Scroll around a bit and select the image that first leaps out at you. Free-write about this image for 5 minutes or until you have nothing left to say. Anything is fair game— visual descriptions, surfacing memories, historic/scientific knowledge, word/sound associations, etc.

Step 3: Go back to your image search and choose another image much farther down the page. Do 5 minutes or so of writing about this one.

Step 4: Go back to your image search and choose another image — or you can even do a new search and choose something from that, just don’t think about your choices too hard — and write for another 5 minutes about this next one.

By this point, you may already have a piece brewing, and, if so, go for it.

Step 5: It turns out you’ve been writing a poetic sequence this whole time! (WHAT?!!) Yes. Use your free-write to construct a sequence in several small parts with the following "ingredients."

● One section must be at least 8 short lines.
● One section must contain 1 unanswerable question.
● One section must have fewer than 8 longer lines.
● One section must have at least 3 semicolons.
● One section must be a prose block.
● One section must contain a quote of some kind (from a song, poem, movie, etc.)
● One section must be only 1 line.

There can be sections that contain more than one of the items in this formal recipe. There can also be sections that contain none of these things.

This probably goes without saying, but: if you fully hate this idea, please do whatever you've got to do to make the thing you want to make.
